KEVIN CONNAUTON

KEVIN CONNAUTON - Defenseman - 29 - $1.375MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 7/23/19
Connauton is a very bland NHL defenseman. He has good puck moving abilities, and has shown offensive touch as a shooter from the point. He's held his own as at least a #7 since 2013, and has shown the ability to stay in the lineup despite facing injuries and playing on bad teams. That being said, Connauton is a poor defensive defenseman and a liability on the penalty kill. Isolated impact metrics bear out this point, showing Connauton to be a strong negative presence on 5v5 and 4v5 defense. He simply lacks the strength and defensive awareness to make his presence felt in his own end, and given that his offensive abilities are good but nothing remarkable, Connauton has limited value as an NHL defenseman. He can hold his own on a non-contender's bottom pairing if that team needs some transitional ability out of the back end, but beyond that Connauton should be a #7 or #8 defenseman.
