JUUSE SAROS

JUUSE SAROS - Goalie - 24 - $1.50MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2021-2022

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Saros, a former fourth round pick, has been groomed over the last three seasons to be Pekka Rinne's successor in the crease for Nashville. He's been Rinne's backup for those three seasons, steadily increasing his workload and posting strong numbers in the process. Saros is an undersized goalie, standing under six feet tall, which is an issue for most goalie prospects. That being said, Saros is an incredibly athletic goaltender who is proactive about making saves, which is a requirement for a goalie his size. Whereas other goalies can rely on being six-foot-six to make their saves, not needing to move as much to cover space in the net, Saros isn't afforded that privilege, but he makes it work. Making it work is a common theme about Saros' game. He isn't the most toolsy goaltender, but he's got good vision, he's smart, and he's athletic. It's still unknown how Saros will respond to a significantly increased workload, but given the support structure around him in Nashville and the mentor he has in Pekka Rinne, I wouldn't bet against him.
