JUSTIN BRAUN

JUSTIN BRAUN - Defenseman - 32 - $3.8MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
After serving for San Jose since 2010-2011, Justin Braun was shipped to Philadelphia in a cap-clearing move. He's been a durable, consistent defensive defenseman for the past six seasons. Braun is a pretty big defenseman, which allows him to muscle his way to pucks and be an impact crease-clearer. Braun can capably handle 20+ minutes per night with ease, and while he won't be an elite shutdown force he plays a mistake-limiting, steady game. Offensively, though, Braun is a black hole. He's shown the ability to produce 30 points with the right partner, but as a whole he's a mid-teens point producer. He has a hard shot and can be an asset at the point, and he seals the boards well to allow his team to keep possession of the puck, but as a whole Braun's lack of puck skills and high-end skating makes him a liability as an offensive player. That being said, his defensive value and penalty killing abilities make him a good, durable #3/4 defenseman.
