J.T. BROWN - Right Winger - 29 - $.687MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/6/19
While Brown has bounced around the league a bit in recent years, he's still found his way into the NHL lineups more nights than he's spent in the press box. That's largely thanks to his skating ability, his best tool. While Brown may not have great puck skills, phenomenal size, or elite offensive or defensive instincts, he is a fantastic skater with great straight-line speed and the ability to be a relentless and frustrating force on the forecheck. This, along with his willingness to play a scrappy, hard-nosed game despite his lack of size is what keeps him in the league and gives him value on the ice. He shouldn't play on special teams, nor should a team have to rely on his sub par skills in high leverage offensive or defensive situations, but what he can do is provide his team with ~10 minutes of quick, energetic, and frantic hockey that will frustrate his opponents. He's a decent fourth line energy winger at this point in his career, although his dependence on his speed to provide all of his NHL value may prove to be problematic as he ages and his foot speed regresses, but as of right now he still has a place on a good NHL team's fourth line.
