JOSH MANSON - Defenseman - 27 - $4.10MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 7/8/19
Despite being a late bloomer and only breaking into the NHL at 24 years of age, Manson has become one of Anaheim's steadiest defensemen. With his excellent size and strength, Manson is able to play a physical style, and that physical style helps him win battles along the boards and in front of the net. His defensive positioning is fine and has shown some shutdown ability, but he's not at an elite level there. His offense has been strange, as he's been posting sub-20 point numbers consistently save for his 37 point explosion in 2017-18, so it's unknown really if that season was just a wild aberration. Still, though, Manson's raw skill suggests that ~20 points should be the norm for him. As a steady, calming defensive presence with a bit of a mean streak, Manson provides Anaheim with good value from the back end, and while he isn't elite in any area he should remain Anaheim's rock-solid #3/4 defenseman for the next few years.
