JORDAN STAAL - Center - 30 - $6MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 7/25/19
Despite not being as revered in Raleigh as his older brother Eric definitely is, Jordan Staal has still made himself one of the more notable Carolina Hurricanes to ever lace up skates. That being said, age has caught up to Staal, and he struggled to stay healthy in his age-30 campaign. That being said, when he was healthy he gave the Hurricanes exactly what he's given them four seasons: mid-40's pace point production combined with strong defensive play. Staal is one of the best players in the NHL at the faceoff dot, and he can anchor a penalty kill as well as match up with his opposition's top-flight offensive forwards. As long as he can stay healthy, he'll be one of the NHL's best 3C's or a decent 2C, and despite his hefty contract value Staal will still provide great value to a Carolina team needing a shutdown presence down the middle.
