JONATHAN QUICK - Goalie - 33 - $5.8MM Cap Hit - 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 6/22/19
A playoff legend in LA, Quick has seen his stock decline over the past few seasons from elite, perennial Vezina contender status. As 2017-18 showed, Quick is still capable of being an elite goaltender on talent alone, and his ability to be aggressive and kill chances before they even fully materialize is a skill that he revolutionized. Like all goalies, though, Quick is susceptible to dips in performance if the team playing in front of him is terrible, and the Kings last year gave Quick little to no defensive support. He's a butterfly goalie, so he's sometimes prone to overcommitment, but Quick has the athleticism and instincts to make highlight-reel saves in those situations. Unfortunately for him, though, his athleticism will likely fade as he gets deeper into his thirties, and he'll need to be a more careful goalie once he can't rely on his natural gifts to bail him out. He still has the talent to be an elite goaltender, but he's stuck on a franchise that's aging and treading water, so we've likely seen the last of Quick at his absolute best. Still, he's still easily a very strong #1 goalie.
