JOHN MOORE - Defenseman - 28 - $2.75MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 1/30/19
The former Blue Jacket, Ranger, Coyote, and Devil signed a five-year contract worth just $2,750,000 per season in the 2018 offseason. A purely defensive defenseman who blends powerful skating with the ability to physically punish opponents, Moore seems to be a lock to play on the Bruins third pairing for the next five seasons. While certainly a solid bottom pairing option, the Bruins decision to make a 5-year commitment to Moore has been a head-scratcher. While his cap hit is somewhat of a bargain for a #5, given the Bruins' surplus of near-NHL ready defensive prospects, Moore's contract could become a burden if he ends up blocking some younger prospects from getting quality minutes.
