JEREMY LAUZON - Defenseman - 21 - Drafted 2015 #52 Overall
LAST UPDATED 2/17/19
The Bruins' 3rd of 3 second round selections in 2015, Lauzon’s development has taken more time than the Bruins initially assumed it would. A solid puck mover with good size, Lauzon’s senses need some development before he can take a regular NHL role. While the team felt he could eventually become an offensively minded top-4 defenseman in the NHL, that upside has dulled and his prospect status is more of a question of whether or not he will establish himself as a true NHL defenseman or not. After four solid seasons in the QMJHL with Rouyn-Noranda, Lauzon made the jump to pro hockey with Providence for the 2017-2018 season and struggled immensely, unable to secure a regular spot in Providence’s lineup. Heading into the 2018-2019 season, the Bruins didn’t really know what they had in Lauzon, but when injuries to their blueline forced the young defenseman into an emergency role for Boston, where he struggled again and put himself out of the Bruins future blueline picture. While he showed some improvement later in the season for Providence, it remains to be seen whether Lauzon will ever secure an NHL role, and if he does, whether it will be with Boston. He still has enough upside to become a #4, but it's incredibly unlikely and he looks to be a boom-or-bust type prospect at this point in his development.
