JEFF CARTER - Center - 34 - $5.272MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 6/22/19
A veteran of LA's two Stanley Cup runs, Jeff Carter simply hasn't been the same since he suffered a huge injury that tore apart his 2017-18 season. His foot speed has eroded and he simply isn't a good enough skater to create time and space with the puck as he used to be able to. He still has that hard, accurate shot that made him a consistent 30 goal scorer, but he's not able to utilize it as often and his scoring plummeted along with his shooting percentage. (down to an unsustainably low 7.5%) While there's hope that Carter can rebound his scoring with some enhanced puck luck, he's on an offensively anemic team and at 34 years old players typically don't experience bounce back years after falling off of a cliff. He's still an asset on the penalty kill, performing very well in his 140 minutes there, but given his contract and lack of recent scoring, Carter is more of an aging low-end 2C at this point than a true sniping #1 center.
