JAROSLAV HALAK - Goalie - 33 - $2.75MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 1/30/19
The Bruins signed former St. Louis Blues/New York Islanders/Montreal Canadiens starter Halak to a two year contract in the 2018 offseason with the idea that he would provide a durable backup option to franchise goaltender Tuukka Rask. While those expectations seemed somewhat optimistic, the results have been even better than Bruins management could possibly have envisioned. Halak has stolen start after start from Rask and despite some struggles in January, has been overall a better goaltender than Rask. While he's not always the most consistent, Halak still possesses good instincts and a steadiness that keeps weak goals from going into the net. His vision is also untouched from his prime years, which helps his ability to fight through screens for pucks. At 33, his best days are likely behind him, but if he can sustain his Boston performance he can be a great 1B goalie for any team giving him starts.
