JAMES REIMER - Goalie - 31 - $3.4MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
As a former 188-game starter for the Leafs, Reimer was signed by the Panthers brass to be a 1B-style platoon partner for the oft-injured and rapidly-aging Roberto Luongo. While he provided that level of play in his first two seasons in Sunrise, starting 39 and 42 games with save percentages of .920 and .913, respectively, Reimer has regressed significantly this season. While the Panthers have also played a worse quality of hockey than they are typically used to, Reimer has posted a .902 sv% this year as well as a high 3.02 GAA. While not all of this blame can be placed on him, the regression in his ability to provide quality starts is apparent, and the future of Florida goaltending is unclear. If he can bounce back to his prior form, Reimer can re-emerge as one of the NHL's premier 1B options, but if he continues this downward trend, his days as an NHL goaltender are numbered. With the significant investment FLA made in him as a UFA, in both his cap hit and term, Florida will definitely need him to bounce back.
