JAKOB FORSBACKA-KARLSSON

JAKOB FORSBACKA-KARLSSON - Center - 22 - Drafted 2015 #45 Overall

LAST UPDATED 2/13/19
Heading into the 2018-2019 season, Forsbacka Karlsson was considered one of the Bruins' top prospects. A 2nd round pick in the 2015 draft class, Forsbacka Karlsson showcased serious playmaking ability in two seasons at Boston University before making the jump to pro hockey with AHL Providence before the 2017-2018 season. With Providence, Forsbacka Karlsson showed flashes of his ability to be a game changer on offense but was somewhat inconsistent. So far in the 2018-2019 season, Forsbacka Karlsson has bounced between the AHL and NHL, with middling results in the NHL so far. While it may seem easy to label Forsbacka Karlsson’s rookie year a bust so far, one needs to read into his offensive struggles. With the Bruins, Forsbacka Karlsson has been limited to a bottom-6 role, a style of play that doesn’t let him utilize his best assets. "JFK" is a skill player; he blends quick feet with excellent puck handling, passing, and decent shooting, but his game completely lacks physicality. While Forsbacka Karlsson has potential to be a top-6 player at the NHL level, the Bruins current roster makeup limits him both in terms of role and playing style, and he’s probably best served spending another season in Providence before going to the NHL full time. He does have top-6 upside, though given his NHL struggles, he's far from a sure thing as a 22-year-old.
