JAKOB CHYCHRUN

JAKOB CHYCHRUN - Defenseman - $4.6MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2025-2026

LAST UPDATED 7/23/19
Chychrun, the son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Chychrun, has struggled with injuries and inconsistency to start his career. As a former top prospect, Chychrun has had high expectations throughout his career. Injuries have plagued him thus far, and he's yet to play 70 games in a single NHL season. That being said, Chychrun, when he has played, has shown the tremendous upside that made him a top prospect in the first place. He's got great size and strength, and moves very well for a player his size. He has puck moving upside, and a booming point shot. He's smart enough in his own end to be trusted in high leverage situations, and while he still has those mistakes that are expected of someone his age, he's shown throughout his career an ability to play a veteran game even in his early 20's or as a teenager. He's a top-4 defenseman at this point, with the upside to be a very good #2, but he needs to stay healthy and find more consistency if he wants to have a chance at getting there.
