JACK STUDNICKA - Center - 20 - Drafted 2017 #53 Overall
LAST UPDATED 2/18/19
The Bruins’ 2nd round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Studnicka is one of Boston’s top ranked prospects. After a good but not great two seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, many scouts expected Studnicka to fall the middle rounds of the draft, but Bruins GM Don Sweeney was obviously impressed with Studnicka’s two-way game, high motor, playoff success, skating, faceoff taking ability, and accurate release and took a chance in the 2nd round, perhaps hoping Studnicka turns into some sort of Patrice Bergeron-esque player. Studnicka improved greatly in his third OHL season, Studnicka had an impressive five game stint with the Providence Bruins in the late 2017-2018 season, giving his prospect stock a huge boost. Studnicka then turned a spectacular performance for the Bruins during the 2018 preseason, narrowly missing out on an opening night roster spot. Unfortunately, Studnicka was too young to be assigned to Providence during the preseason, and was sent back to the OHL, where he has since continued to improve his offense. While hoping for a Patrice Bergeron level player out of Studnicka in the future is probably asking too much, there’s no doubt he can become a top-6 level, two-way center once he establishes himself in the NHL. Given how high the organization appears on Studnicka, he’ll most likely crack Boston’s roster in the 2019-2020 season.
