FREDERIK ANDERSEN - Goalie - 29 - $5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 8/22/19
After winning the Jennings trophy in Anaheim, the Ducks chose to keep John Gibson as their franchise goalie over Andersen. That choice does seem like it was the right one, but that's not to say Andersen isn't a strong starting goalie in his own right. The best trait Andersen has is his stability. Andersen is a big goalie who covers a lot of net naturally. He makes all the routine saves well, and has enough athleticism to make some desperation saves. He rarely gives up soft goals, but he isn't the kind of goalie who'll steal games night after night. He's good, but he's not a perennial Vezina contender. For a team like Toronto, having a safe, consistent goalie like Andersen at only $5MM per year is incredibly valuable. He's a great starting goalie but not among the game's elite talents.
