EVGENI MALKIN - Center - 32 - $9.5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Ever since he stepped foot on NHL ice, Evgeni Malkin has been one of the game's most prolific and skilled offensive players. In every healthy season he's played, he's scored between 85-113 points, and even when he's not healthy he's still able to sustain point-per-game pace point production or better. Malkin is a towering centerman with elite size, strength, and puck control abilities. Malkin is incredibly difficult to take the puck from, and that puck control allows him to create time and space to make plays. Malkin also has an elite shot, and can pot 40 in a healthy season. Malkin's durability has been an issue, as his size and play style makes him more injury prone than the average center. Still, he's as valuable as the average 1C even when he only plays 70 games, which is a testament to just how skilled Malkin is. Defensively, Malkin lacks the drive and defensive awareness to be a penalty-killing two-way center, and his aggressiveness on offense means his defensive upside is limited. Still, if he really needs to turn it on, Malkin is capable of being a tough defensive center who can match up with high-end offensive opponents. Malkin is one of the game's best centers, a true play-driving force whose only struggle is to be able to consistently stay healthy enough to get on the ice that he dominates.
