EVANDER KANE - Left Winger - 28 - $7MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2025-2026
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
While he was once one of the more controversial figures in hockey, Evander Kane seems to have really settled in as a strong contributor in San Jose. Kane is a big, fiery winger who excels in the tough areas of the ice. He's a beast in front of the net, using his strength and motor to power his way through the crease and power rebounds past the goalie. He's also an impact player from the hashmarks, unleashing his lethal shot to score ~30 goals consistently. Kane isn't a true passer, and doesn't have the hands, skating, or playmaking instincts to be a play-driving winger. Instead, he's an elite complementary scorer and one of the better triggermen a pass-first linemate could ask for. He's elite along the boards, and can be a huge asset in a dump-and-chase system that requires forwards to dig for pucks once the puck is dumped in. Kane is also an asset defensively, using his size and physicality to muscle his way to pucks. He can kill penalties on a second unit and rile up his opponents, getting under their skin and forcing mistakes. He's a truly valuable all-around, shoot-first winger, and should be a top-6 staple in San Jose for the next half decade or longer.
