ELIAS LINDHOLM - Right Winger - 24 - $4.85MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2024-2025
LAST UPDATED 6/28/19
After several ho-hum seasons in Carolina, Lindholm was starting to get labeled as a bust by fans. Drafted ahead of Sean Monahan, Bo Horvat, and Rasmus Ristolainen, people were beginning to get frustrated with Lindholm's inability to be more than a decent ~40 point producer. After being traded to Calgary, Lindholm showed everyone why he was drafted so high in 2013, forming immediate chemistry with linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. He scored 27 goals and had 51 assists, for a total of 78 points in his near point-per-game season. While his inflated shooting percentage suggests regression is in store, the chemistry he had with two top-flight offensive producers indicates that Lindholm will at least be a 60 point winger going forward. He has a decent shot, but more importantly, he has great puck skills and the ability to be an elite playmaker from the wing. He's a hard worker and a great defender, capable of being a presence on a penalty kill and a shutdown winger 5v5. While his increased scoring output has made him more aggressive and hurt his defensive value, the talent is still there. He has morphed himself from being a Frolik-esque decent-scoring, shutdown winger to being now an elite playmaker on one of the NHL's best lines. He's definitely worth his contract value, even taking into account possible regression, and going forward Lindholm looks to be a legitimate, elite first line winger.
