DYLAN STROME

DYLAN STROME - Center - 22 - $.863MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 7/28/19
While Strome was labelled a colossal bust during his tenure in Arizona, it only took a trade to Chicago to make fans completely forget about that. As soon as Strome put on a Blackhawk jersey, he showed everyone why he was drafted right behind McDavid and Eichel, and posted an elite 51 points in 58 games, good for a 72 point season over a full 82 game sample size assuming the pace stays constant. Those are incredible numbers, and they aren't exactly a surprise. Strome always had the talent. He was an elite scorer in the OHL and AHL, and had high-end puck skills, offensive instincts, and playmaking ability. What kept him from using those talents to their fullest was a restrictive system in Arizona and more importantly, poor skating ability. Strome's weak skating had always dogged him, and it took a move to Chicago and a few offseasons of relentless training in order to make him an average skater. Going forward, Strome will need to show he can sustain his scoring and show he can drive play as a legitimate NHL center, as well as improve his spotty defensive game. If he can make himself a more well-rounded two-way player and show he can be a play driver himself without the help of elite teammates, Strome could eventually become the #1 center he was drafted to be. Right now, though, he looks like a top-6 player who needs to switch from taking faceoffs at the center position to settling in as a winger.
