DUSTIN BROWN - Right Winger - 34 - $5.875MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 6/21/19
For a while, we thought Dustin Brown was done. From 2013 to 2017, he’d failed to reach the 40 point mark, become a negative-value asset, and been stripped of his team’s captaincy. But, in 2017-18, Brown experienced a resurgence. He rediscovered his scoring tough, and lit up Pacific division opponents, scoring 28 goals and 61 points. Nobody thought that his newly revived offensive ability would last, but on a dreadful Kings team Brown followed that season by posting a still very solid 22 goals and 51 points. So maybe he is back, then? The issue for Brown, though, regarding the chances he sustains his top-6 quality production, is his age and style of play. Brown is 34 years old, 35 in November, and his relentlessly physical style of play that made him a viable NHL-er in his early 30’s despite low scoring totals will start causing his body to break down more and more. So the “cliff” that Brown’s career seems destined to fall off of could rear its ugly head sooner rather than later. But at this point Brown’s leadership, physicality, and strong, heavy shot should all make him at the very least a viable third liner or a low-end top-6 winger with the right center to match his playstyle.
