DRAKE CAGGIULA - Left Winger - 25 - $1.50MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 7/25/19
Drake Caggiula is a remarkably unremarkable NHL player. He has good hands. He's a decent enough skater. He's got good scoring pedigree, and was an elite NCAA winger, and he's a smart enough player to be able to give his coach consistently fine minutes. Not particularly good minutes, but he'll play 14 minutes of fine, unimpressive hockey, and earn his paycheck. His skills are all around average for an NHL player, and he doesn't excel in one area enough to give himself a niche to really establish himself through. He can't kill penalties, he isn't skilled enough to be an offensive threat or a power play specialist, and he isn't big or physical enough to be a true grinder. He's just someone who can provide energy and genuine effort to a team, and as long as he's cheap he's the bottom-6 filler that some teams adore. Because of his mistake-free style of mediocre hockey, he'll stick in the NHL. He's a good player and a good person. He has a role in the NHL. But expecting any sort of upside or anything remarkable out of him would be a mistake.
