DAVID RITTICH - Goalie - 26 - $2.75MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 7/25/19
Splitting starting duties with Mike Smith, David Rittich had a fine sophomore NHL campaign, winning 27 games and posting a very solid .911 sv% /2.61 GAA /1.68 GSAA line in 42 starts. Rittich has above-average size for the goaltending position, and while he isn't the most impressive athlete he squares up to pucks well and has good command of his angles. The key for goalies is to face as many pucks as possible in order for them to develop, and Rittich is in a favorable situation in Calgary to be able to start more games in the crease rather than on the pine. I'm not convinced that Rittich is the long-term answer in Calgary, but at the very least he looks like a solid Steve Mason in Philadelphia-esque 1A option for a team that has their long term starter waiting in the wings.
