DAVID PERRON - Left Winger - 31 - $4.00MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
In 2017, the St. Louis Blues left David Perron unprotected in the expansion draft, allowing the Vegas Golden Knights to take Perron's services from St. Louis for the remainder of his contract. Perron immediately made the Blues regret that choice. In Perron's lone year as a Golden Knight, he posted a career-high 66 points in only 70 games, and led Vegas to the Cup Finals. In the offseason, St. Louis wanted to correct their mistake, and they locked up Perron until 2022-2023. Perron didn't have as strong of a season in 2018-19, as he missed time, but the strides in production he made seemed like they were there to stay. Perron scored at a 66 point full-season pace, and proved to be an invaluable top-6 contributor for St. Louis in the playoffs. Perron has always been exceptionally skilled. He has soft hands, and a good eye for open ice. He's feisty and willing to do what it takes to create chances with the puck, and for what he may lack in skating talent and top-end speed, he makes up for with his motor and sheer determination. Perron not having great skating has been an issue as the NHL has gotten faster, but Perron still finds his way and he's at his best on the power play where he's afforded time and space with the puck by circumstance rather than through his own abilities. Perron can still capably produce 60 points when healthy, but actually staying healthy will be the issue. For him to really cement his value, he'll need to prove he can stay healthy, something he has consistently struggled to do throughout his career. If Perron can stay healthy and produce at the rate he's been producing recently, he can be a high-end top-6 producer and a steal costing $4MM AAV.
