DAVID PASTRNAK - Right Winger - 22 - $6.66MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 1/30/19
The 25th overall selection in 2014, Pastrnak blown past any of his pre-draft projections. After being called up in 2014-2015, Pastrnak showed flashes of his potential but struggled at times to combine his accurate shooting, spectacular vision, playmaking ability, and smooth, quick skating to create consistent results. Another good but not great campaign in 2015-2016 left some fans wondering whether Pastrnak would ever truly pan out, but when the Bruins united Pastrnak with longtime linemates Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, his production took off and he has since produced at a point-per-game level. Furthermore, some of Marchand’s trademark grittiness seems to have rubbed of on Pastrnak, as he has become more aggressive in battling for pucks and cutting to the net, making his game even deeper and boosting his production further. While not an standout defensive player, Pastrnak is only 23, and playing with a two-way center like Bergeron could help him to continue developing in that category. Already in the conversation as a top-10 right winger in the NHL, Pastrnak is the present and future for the Bruins, and he has set himself up for a long and very successful career so far as a complete, elite first line winger.
