DANNY DeKEYSER - Defenseman - 29 - $5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
An undrafted free agent signed out of Western Michigan in 2013, DeKeyser has quietly carved out a solid career for himself as a do-it-all #4-#5 defenseman for the Wings. Since debuting during the 2012-2013 season, DeKeyser has showcased his decent puck moving ability, solid skating, and good awareness on both sides of the puck. At 6’3, DeKeyser has solid size, though he isn’t a very physical player, and his lack of any real standout attribute doesn’t make him a good fit for any teams special team’s units, but his overall decent ability allows him to eat minutes while being a net positive player. During the Red Wings rebuilding effort over the past few seasons, DeKeyser has remained on the team’s roster, suggesting that the Detroit organization likes his locker room presence and wants to keep him around to help develop younger players while providing some semblance of stability on their middle pairing.
