CORY SCHNEIDER - Goalie - 33 - $6.00MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
While he was once one of the league's most talented goaltenders who generated a bit of Vezina buzz in 2016, Cory Schneider has been unable to overcome weak Devils teams in front of him and his own injuries over the course of the past three seasons, and he's posted a GSAA below zero for those past three seasons. He only got into 26 games this past season and had a .903 sv%, and he hasn't reached .910 since 2015-16. He's still got talent, and he sees the ice well and has good command of his angles, as well as above-average size, but he just has not been able to translate those tools into consistent quality starts. I think that Schneider is still talented enough to sort out what's wrong and bounce back, but on a team with a rising young goalie like the Devils have in Mackenzie Blackwood, Schneider needs to work quickly to restore his status as their franchise goaltender. He's still talented, but I don't feel comfortable calling him a true #1 goalie until he proves he can start 50+ games again and post at least a positive GSAA and a .910+ sv%.
