CONNOR CLIFTON - Defenseman - 23 - Drafted 2013 #133 Overall
LAST UPDATED 2/6/19
Arizona selected Clifton in the 5th round of the 2013 draft, but the defenseman chose to attend four years of college at Quinnipiac University rather than join the professional ranks. After an up-and-down four seasons in the NCAA, Clifton was unable to secure an NHL contract, and signed with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. While his stats weren’t eye popping (4-9-13 in 54 games), Clifton’s campaign with the P-Bruin’s was convincing enough to earn a 2-year contract before the 2018-2019 season. While Clifton doesn’t do anything all that well, his value comes out of his leadership ability and steady presence on the ice. Clifton was named the captain for Quinnipiac beginning in his junior year, and he has even sported an “A” during Bruins preseason games. While Clifton is a solid skater and a "meh" puck mover, he plays more of a rugged, physical style and won’t do anything poorly but won’t exactly impress anyone either. Overall, Clifton appears to be more minor league depth/#9 defenseman in case of injuries than a real NHL option.
