CONNOR CARRICK - Defenseman - 25 - $1.50MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Connor Carrick has bounced around the league a bit recently and has struggled to establish himself as an everyday NHL defenseman. He has some decent tools. He's a good skater, with above-average mobility from the back end and the potential to be an asset in transition. That mobility comes at a cost, though, and Carrick isn't a very strong defender and he struggles with the physical side of the game. He can be outmuscled for pucks by big forwards and doesn't have the skating ability or puck skills to be an elite offensive producer. In limited action he's shown the ability to be a moderately strong offensive contributor, and looks to have 30 point upside as his ceiling. Carrick isn't all that young anymore, though, and his struggles defensively and his inability to cement himself as an NHL defenseman are concerning. I think right now he's stuck as a puck moving energy #7, but isn't a capable enough defensive defenseman to earn the trust of his coaches so he can play nightly. I think he can still get there and become a #5/6 but he's not there yet.
