CHRISTIAN FISCHER - Right Winger - 22 - $.821MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 7/23/19
Fischer, a star for OHL Windsor and a former top prospect, as struggled with inconsistency in his first two NHL seasons. His rookie season in 2017-18 was a revelation, as he flashed tremendous upside as a strong power forward. That success did not carry to his sophomore season, as he struggled to translate his hard-nosed physical game into actual point production. Power forwards generally take longer to develop in the NHL than other forwards, so at such a young age the sky is still the limit for Fischer, but he will need to actually show development if he wants to stick in Arizona's long term plans. With the puck on his stick, Fischer shows above-average ability as a playmaker, and that paired with his strong shot makes him an intriguing offensive piece. Defensively, he has the size and strength to win battles for pucks but he lacks the defensive awareness to be a true shutdown player. At this point, he's a third line power forward with power play abilities in front of the net and in the corners, but Fischer also has the upside to be so much more. He could break out, or he could be Nick Richie. There's genuinely no way to tell which direction he'll go until he steps onto the ice again.
