CHANDLER STEPHENSON - Center - 25 - $1.05MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 9/20/19
A 3rd round selection by Washington in 2012, Stephenson is a speedy and versatile bottom-6 two-way forward. While he has shown some offensive potential in the AHL, Stephenson hasn’t been a great offensive player at the NHL level. However, he offers above average defensive instincts and a great work ethic, and with the departure of Devante Smith-Pelley from the Capitals’ bottom-6 should be primed for a regular role. At 25 years of age to open the 2019-2020 season, there is room for Stephenson to develop, but given his current production at the NHL level, it seems like he’s best suited as a bottom-6 piece for the foreseeable future.
