CEDRIC PAQUETTE - Center - 26 - $1.65MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 2/20/19
Cedric Paquette had the best offensive season of his career aside from his rookie year in 2018-19. He had 4 assists in 80 games. That should tell you something about Paquette. He's not an offensive player. Now, he scored very well in the QMJHL, but I attribute that to his size and strength than I do to him actually developing some strong offensive tools. Paquette isn't a strong skater. He lacks the puck skills necessary to create plays at a high level, and he doesn't have very strong offensive instincts. At his best, his chief offensive value lies in front of the net and in the corners, where he can jostle for position and regain possession of dumped-in pucks for more skilled linemates. Paquettes' real value lies in his physical style. He's more than a willing hitter, he thrives with it. He can rattle off big hits, and that combined with the energy he plays with can bring value to a tired team. Paquette can also win faceoffs decently well, and plays with enough defensive awareness combined with his physicality to kill penalites. He's not very fast, which impacts his ability as a forechecker and backchecker, but in total his penalty killing ability makes him a defensive plus. Paquette isn't someone who will impress fans, save for the occasional big hit, but he will provide intimidating physical play combined with decent penalty killing to make him a decent, energetic 4C.
