CAMERON HUGHES - Center - 22 - Drafted 2015 #165 Overall
Not a skill player, Hughes’s value comes from his high-energy all-around play. While Boston likely initially expected Hughes to function as minor league depth, he is currently having a surprisingly strong season in Providence, with many scouts now beginning to consider him as a legitimate NHL prospect. 28 points thus far, Hughes has been playing like a future 3rd liner for the Bruins. At 22, there’s a decent chance he makes his NHL debut at some point in the next two seasons. However, he is another depth prospect in a crowded Bruins minor league system, meaning his path to the NHL may be blocked as long as he’s with Boston. Still, he is a very safe prospect and plays a strong two-way game, so he definitely has NHL upside, even if being a 3C is the highest that upside will likely reach.
