CALVIN de HAAN - Defenseman - 28 - $4.55MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2022-2023
LAST UPDATED 7/25/19
After his time as an Islander was ended by a season-ending injury, De Haan bounced back and had a solid rebound season in his debut campaign for the Hurricanes. De Haan is a great skater, with smooth puck moving skills and a knack for zone entries. He has a steadying presence on the ice and plays mistake-minimizing hockey. He's not an overly aggressive Nathan Beaulieu-esque puck mover, instead picking his times to rush up the ice and more often than not he doesn't get caught and he successfully establishes offense in the opposite zone. He's not a physical defenseman, so he isn't the best choice for high-leverage defensive situations, but he can capably play 20 moderately difficult minutes per night and not give his team any issues. He's nothing spectacular, but he's a solid #4 defenseman who can hold his own on a second pairing or anchor a bottom pairing.
