BRIAN GIBBONS - Left Winger - 31 - $.725MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/24/19
Despite playing over 180 NHL games, it's a bit of a stretch to call Brian Gibbons a legit NHL asset. He's got good enough vision, hands, and offensive abilities to produce points at a lower level, but in the NHL he simply is not fast enough or skilled enough to translate those points over. He's undersized, and while he brings effort and grit to every shift he plays on, he simply is not a physical player, nor is he a strong enough asset defensively to give him value in a bottom-6 shutdown role. Isolated impact metrics portray Gibbons as an asset on a penalty kill but a huge negative at even strength, hurting his team's ability to score goals and defend against them. At this point, Gibbons is a definite AAAA player whose only value could be to help a second penalty kill unit. He's 30, so there's likely not much improvement from here, but he can still be a viable veteran 14th forward in an organization.
