BRANDON PIRRI

BRANDON PIRRI - Left Winger - 28 - $.775MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022

LAST UPDATED 6/20/19
Brandon Pirri is an enigma. Earlier in his career, he scored 22 goals for the Florida Panthers. Great! But he had 24 points that year. His shooting percentage that year didn’t really deviate from his career average, so it’s not like it was some fluke, but after that he never found the right fit or the right consistency to repeat that success. What the film shows is that Brandon Pirri is a very one dimensional player, but a one dimensional player with great untapped upside. That untapped upside comes from his shot. As evidenced by his performance immediately after his call up to Vegas in 2018-2019, Pirri can flat-out score. He has an amazing shot, capable of scoring goals at an elite rate, but the issue with Pirri is that his shot is pretty much his only tool. He’s a poor defender, not a truly strong playmaker, and not a gritty, physical player to give him lineup versatility. He’s a shot. But he’s a damn good shot. His best fit is on a rebuilding team who’s willing to give him the opportunities he needs with a playmaking center and with top-6 ice time to be able to see just how well he can produce. He probably won’t help the team win games as a whole, but he surely will score goals and in the right situation could reasonably become a 30 goal scorer. For a team with no intentions of competing, being able to conjure up a 30 goal winger out of nothing, ripe to be converted into prospects at the trade deadline, is an attractive prospect. Pirri may remain the AAAA player he currently is, but with the right fit, he could really explode.
