BODE WILDE - Defenseman - 18 - Drafted 2018 #41 Overall
LAST UPDATED 1/29/19
Despite his high end talent and electrifying playstyle, Wilde fell to the 2nd round due to perceived work ethic/character concerns as well as questions over the viability of his play at the NHL level. Wilde is a very toolsy player. He's got a good, hard shot, he skates well, can quarterback a powerplay and distribute the puck, and hes got decent instincts. Sometimes, though, his aggressiveness can get the better of him and he makes careless mistakes and costs his team. While that's to be expected from any under-20 offensive defenseman, it happens enough with Wilde for it to be a concern. His instincts, though, are great and he has performed very well in his first season for OHL Saginaw. If he can round out his game and perform a bit better defensively, while cutting out on all the mistakes, the sky's the limit for Wilde, but realistically his upside is that of a puck-moving, offensively oriented #2 who's better served as a #3 on the second pairing.
