BO HORVAT - Center - 24 - $5.5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 8/28/19
One of the most beloved post-2011 Canucks, Bo Horvat has cemented his place as one of the team's leaders on and off the ice. On the ice, Horvat brings strong play to both ends of the ice. Defensively, Horvat has great vision, instincts, and decent size. He's very diligent and has a keen knowledge of where to be and what to do on the ice. He can hound the puck as it's being moved around the defensive zone and suffocate opposing forwards as they try to create offense. Add on top of that the ability to kill penalties and you get a truly great defensive center, which Horvat is. Offensively, Horvat has been consistently improving as his career has progressed. He set career highs this past season, scoring 27 goals and 61 points. Horvat's intelligence, puck skills, and above-average skating allow him to be a very well-rounded offensive player. His shot is good, but more importantly he's adept at getting himself into great places to be able to bury pucks. 25 goals and 60 points should be the expectation for him going forward, and I still think he has the upside to be quite a bit more. Right now, he's a high-end two-way 2C who can fill in as a de facto 1C as needed, but he's not quite a true franchise center unless he can show the ability to consistently hit the 70 point mark.
