BLAKE COMEAU - Right Winger - 33 - $2.40MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 8/17/19
Since his NHL debut in the 2006-2007 season, Blake Comeau has been a consistent bottom-6 plug for six NHL franchises. While Comeau isn’t the most skilled player, he’s refined his playstyle over the past 10+ seasons to ensure that his lack of skill doesn’t impede his ability to be a valuable NHL player. He’s a smart winger with decent north-south speed, and he has the size and strength to make an impact along the boards and in the corners. He’s not an intimidating physical force, but he can reliably win puck battles and rattle off a hit or two when he needs to. Comeau is a relentless back checker and has the experience, intelligence, and positional awareness to be a strong defensive winger. Offensively, Comeau is quite limited, and his lack of puck skills or high-end skating ability relegates him to being only a marginal offensive contributor. He’s not being paid for his offense, though, and he can still provide capable defensive play as well as veteran leadership to a bottom-6. He’s a good fourth line defensive winger who can kill penalties on the second unit, and despite his advanced age there’s still value in a player who can provide that.
