BEN HARPUR - Defenseman - 24 - $.725MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/18/19
Harpur, a survivor of ECHL reassignment and a former 4th round pick, has carved himself a nice career thus far in the NHL. Standing six inches above six feet, Harpur has the size scouts want from NHL defensemen. He moves well for someone that size and has decent passing ability. As his production shows, he'll never stick in the NHL for his offense, but he isn't a liability with the puck. Like many young players, Harpur isn't known for his consistency, and has games where he's able to effectively utilize his natural gifts to kill chances in his own end, but he'll have other games where he simply looks lost. As he gets more experienced and establishes himself more as an everyday player, those concerns will start to fade. At this point, Harpur is a solid #6 defenseman with upside to do more if he can discover some semblance of offensive ability.
