ANTHONY CIRELLI - Center - 21 - $.728MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
As a former third round pick with only good not great OHL numbers, Cirelli wasn't the most highly regarded prospect. But, Tampa Bay's development system did wonders for him, and Cirelli has become an invaluable, mature two-way force down the middle for Tampa Bay. Cirelli is the type of player who doesn't typically make the big highlight reel play to get your attention, but will instead make dozens of little plays with and without the puck throughout the game that make a big impact but can go unnoticed to the casual fan. Cirelli has a great hockey mind, and he knows exactly where to be and what to do on the ice. That mind combines well with his work ethic and energy, and makes him a formidable force to match up against, as he will probably out compete your line. Cirelli is a tireless defensive player who can forecheck, win faceoffs, backcheck, and be an asset in coverage in the defensive zone. He has good command over his movement and defensive stick, and can be adept at interrupting passing lanes and tying himself to his opponent and suffocating them in the offensive zone, destroying the time and space they need with the puck to create plays. Offensively, Cirelli is still growing, and doesn't have a signature elite offensive tool that lets him produce at a high level. Instead, it's effort and sheer determination that carries Cirelli's game, and he'll go anywhere or do anything in order to get the puck to his teammates or to the back of the net. Cirelli probably won't score 60 points without fantastic linemates, but a 45 point future is still very likely. Cirelli is a great two-way center who never quits and is mature beyond his years. He's a very strong 3C right now and should only get better.
