ALEXANDER KERFOOT - Center - 25 - $3.50MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 7/28/19
The Avalanche "stole" Kerfoot from the Devils as an NCAA free agent after the Devils "stole" Hobey Baker winner Will Butcher from them, and as of right now Kerfoot looks to be the more promising NHL player given Butcher's inability to play defense. Kerfoot has been remarkably consistent for his two NHL seasons, scoring 43 and 42 points in each of them, even surviving an over 10% decrease in shooting percentage from an insane 23.5% rate he scored at as a rookie to a more manageable 13% as a sophomore. Kerfoot's offensive game is based off of his speed and intelligence, and he's able to get the most out of his above-average puck skills despite being undersized. Kerfoot is also a strong two-way center, and can hold his own with the best of them at the faceoff dot. He has a relentless motor and can be an asset on the penalty kill. Given his offensive abilities and his defensive value, Kerfoot is a fine second line center or a great 3C for Toronto, and should be able to capably fill the void left by Nazem Kadri on Toronto's third line/first unit PK.
