ALEXANDAR GEORGIEV - Goalie - 22 - $.792MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 3/5/19
Since coming over from Russia, Georgiev has shown flashes of immense promise as Henrik Lundqvist's new backup. With a light workload last season, Georgiev was able to post a good .918 sv% in 10 games playing behind a porous defense. As the King has progressed deeper into his late 30's, Georgiev's workload has increased and he has suffered as that has happened. His raw talent is obvious, but the team just does not play with enough structure to insulate him and give him the support a team is expected to provide to a 22 year old goaltender. Going forward, Georgiev definitely has the upside to really do something with his talent, potentially becoming the heir to Lundvist in the Rangers' net, but like with all goalies his development is incredibly volatile.
