ADAM PELECH - Defenseman - 24 - $1.6MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2021-22
LAST UPDATED 12/30/18
A true defensive defenseman, Pelech is the type of defenseman who's at his best when he's not noticed. When Pelech is focused, he can be a steady bottom-pairing presence who allows his partner to take offensive chances while he provides defensive stability. He skates decently, and he's physical enough to fit on a defensive bottom pair. Unfortunately for the Islanders, though, Pelech is prone to having mental hiccups, which often lead to goals or high quality chances for the other team. His awareness is usually fine, but he sometimes just panics and makes a mistake with (or without) the puck. As a result, his upside is limited, because the bigger role Pelech receives, the more frequent those hiccups become. Warts and all, though, Pelech is a fine #6 defensive defenseman, and if he can learn to panic less and stay calm under immense pressure, he could be a bottom-pairing penalty-killing anchor.
